ASHI ACLS™Program Standards

Intended Audience Emergency personnel in intensive care or critical care departments and emergency medical providers. Instructor Prerequisites A current and properly authorized ASHI Instructor in good standing with a reasonable amount of ACLS patient care experience. Participant Prerequisites Training and/or education in basic cardiac rhythm analysis (ECG interpretation) and cardiovascular pharmacology. Professional level Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR/AED) required or included in ACLS course.  TEXTBOOK REQUIRED!

Course Length Varies by class type (initial, refresher) and method.  Initial class about 15 hours.  Successful completion is based on achievement of the core learning objectives rather than a prescribed instruction time.

Certification Requirements Written Exam: Required• 85% or better

*Performance Evaluation: Required• Given a patient situation, and working in a team setting, competently direct the initial emergency care (including mechanical, pharmacological, and electrical therapy where applicable) for each of the following situations:– Respiratory arrest– Pulseless ventricular tachycardia (VT)/ventricular fibrillation (VF) with an automated external defibrillator (AED) available– Cardiac rhythm management including pulseless VT/VF and two other rhythms. Certification Period May not exceed 24 months from class completion date. 

More frequent reinforcement of skills is recommended. Notes: • Occupational licensing boards, regulatory agencies, and other approvers may require specific hours of instruction or other practices.  Continuing Education Emergency medical Services CEH: 12 Advanced through Health and Safety Institute, the parent company of ASHI, an organization accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services. Nursing Continuing Education: 12.79 contact hours through Elsevier | Mosby’s Office of Nursing CE, an accredited provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation 

(ANCC) Applies to initial online portion only. Renewal courses in ACLS are not eligible for NCE.  The passing (cut) score was raised from 68% or better to 85% in April 2012 after an item analysis was performed on a sample population taking the test. Item analysis is a process which examines student responses to individual test items (questions). Analysis confirmed that the wrong answers were less attractive than anticipated, making the exam easier than expected and requiring a higher passing score.

ASHI PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT

ASHI PALS is intended for emergency personnel in intensive care or critical care departments and emergency medical providers. The overall goal of the ASHI PALS Course is to provide healthcare professionals with didactic and psychomotor skills training in the recognition and treatment of conditions that may lead to cardiopulmonary arrest in an infant or child. ASHI PALS incorporates both pre-hospital and hospital management of pediatric emergencies and reflects the 2010 guidelines for CPR and emergency cardiovascular care.

Continuing Educations Hours (CEH) for EMS professionals are available for ASHI PALS from Health & Safety Institute (HSI), a CAPCE Accredited Organization.

Course topics:  

Pediatric Assessment,  Respiratory Emergencies, Cardiovascular Emergencies (shock), Cardiovascular Emergencies (rhythm disturbances), Trauma and Burns, Children with Special Healthcare Needs, Airway Management, Rhythm Recognition and Electrical Therapy, Vascular Access and Medication Administration AND Case Scenarios.

ASHI CPR AND AED FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

This expert-level program from the American Safety & Health Institute helps keep healthcare professionals prepared and ready to respond as they encounter life-threatening emergencies, provide basic life support, and respond to choking and other airway obstruction incidents. ASHI’s CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer has been approved for training for Emergency Medical Services personnel and is accepted by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).  Intended Audience: This program is designed for individuals in the healthcare or professional rescuer field that are required to have professional-level basic life support training.

Digital Certification Cards: CPR EDUCATION AND SEMINARS USES Digital Certification Cards for this course for sustainability, client convenience, and to help keep the cost of the class down.

Digital Certification Cards are included in the cost of this class. If you prefer to have a traditional Laminated Certification Card, please add $5.00 to the cost of the class. Replacement cards will be provided in digital format.

Course Completion Time: 

Certification Course Length: 5 hours.

Recertification Course Length: 4 hours.

CPR/AED AND FIRST AID FOR THE COMMUNITY AND WORKPLACE


ASHI CPR AND AED IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR LAYPEOPLE AND IS AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR BOTH THE COMMUNITY AND WORKPLACE SETTING. THIS EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE PROGRAM WILL HELP PREPARE PEOPLE TO RESPOND TO A CARDIAC ARREST AND CHOKING. THIS PROGRAM CONFORMS TO THE 2015 AHA GUIDELINES UPDATE FOR CPR AND ECC.

SKILLS EVALUATION: STUDENTS MUST PERFORM REQUIRED SKILLS COMPETENTLY WITHOUT ASSISTANCE.

ASHI BLOOD BORNE PATHOGENS

American Safety & Health Institute's Bloodborne Pathogens program includes information that will help students understand what bloodborne pathogens are and how risks of exposure can be reduced for themselves and others. The program assists in satisfying the training requirements of the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030).

Perfect For

Any individual or employee who has a reasonable anticipation of contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials as a result of performing designated job duties.

COURSE COMPLETION TIME:  1 HOUR DURATION

VALID FOR:  *ONE YEAR

EMERGENCY OXYGEN ADMINISTRATION

Serious and life-threatening medical emergencies often cause oxygen to be depleted in the body leaving the victim at risk for shock. The ASHI Emergency Oxygen program focuses on administering emergency oxygen to breathing and non-breathing persons,  emergency oxygen delivery systems, and integrating pulse oximetry.

Perfect For

Individuals who desire or are required to be trained in the administration of emergency oxygen

Pre-requisites

Current CPR or CPR and first aid certification

Successful Completion

Written Evaluation: Required when specified by organizational, local, or state regulation. It is recommended for designated responders with a duty or employer expectation to respond in an emergency and provide first aid care.

Skills Evaluation:  Students must perform required skills competently without assistance.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONSE-ADVANCED FIRST AID

ASHI Emergency Medical Response is designed to provide non-EMS responders including government, corporate, law enforcement, and corrections personnel with a level of training comparable to a professional Emergency Medical Responder. This 48-hour course is consistent with national EMS curriculum requirements and educations standards, however, it is not the intent of the ASHI Emergency Medical Response program to cross the EMS scope of practice threshold.

Perfect For

This course is intended for individuals wo are not EMS or healthcare providers but desire certification in Emergency Medical Response.

Pre-requisites

Current, valid professional-level BLS certification (CPR Pro for the Professional Rescuer). (May be incorporated/conducted in conjunction with the Emergency Medical Response program as needed.)

Required for Successful Completion (Certification)

Written Evaluation: Required

Skills Evaluation: Required. Correctly demonstrate how to: Work as the lead responder in a scenario-based team setting to adequately direct the primary assessment and care of: a. Patient Assessment/Management – Trauma, b. Patient Assessment/Management – Medical, c. BVM Ventilation of an Apneic Adult Patient, d. Oxygen Administration by Non-rebreather Mask, e. Cardiac Arrest Management/AED

Medical Oversight:

Training Centers who are certifying public safety personnel (law enforcement officers, firefighters, corrections officers) in Emergency Medical Response must have physician level (MD or DO) oversight.

State Licensure and Credentialing of Emergency Medical Responders:

State EMS agencies have the legal authority and responsibility to license, regulate, and determine the scope of practice of EMS providers within the state EMS system. ASHI’s Emergency Medical Response program is designed to train and certify individuals in Emergency Medical Response — not to license or credential — Emergency Medical Responders. Individuals who require or desire licensure and credentialing within the state EMS system must complete specific requirements established by the regulating authority. It is not the intent of ASHI’s Emergency Medical Response program to cross the EMS scope of practice threshold.
